About the College of Education
On 1 January 2007, the Christchurch College of Education became the University of Canterbury College of Education. The College also now incorporates the University's School of Education.
Kia ora and welcome to the University of Canterbury College of Education from Prof. Gail Gillon, Pro Vice Chancellor.
The campus in Ilam, Christchurch offers a full range of programmes, services and amenities for all students. The well equipped buildings and teaching rooms are complemented by:
- Collective, the student cafe, is positioned outside the Education Library
- The Education Library has plenty of study space and support for all students either studying on or off campus. Contact the Education Library for renewals on 03 364-2987 ext 6198.

Sonoda On Campus accommodation
Sonoda is a modern 'village' style complex with 140 single rooms arranged into an apartment-style cluster of five bedrooms with a bathroom and a small kitchen/lounge. Sonoda Accommodation applications can be made at www.canterbury.ac.nz/accom

Childcare On Campus
'Te Ao Tamariki' offers education and care for children from 6 weeks until 6 years old. The Centre hours are 7.45 am to 5.30 pm with morning sessions from 7.45am - 12.30pm and afternoon sessions 12.30pm - 5.30pm. For further details contact us on 03-348 8929.
- Recreation facilities
Tennis and netball courts and extensive playing fields as well as two well-equipped gymnasia and a dance studio offer a variety of opportunities for recreation. Fitness training and group exercise classes are available at the University of Canterbury Recreation Centre.
- Plenty of parking at three large parking lots as well as parks for motorcycles, and stands for bicycles.
