Applying for the Bachelor of Sport Coaching

You will need to Apply to Enrol with the University Guide to enrolment.

Applications for 2017 can be submitted online at anytime via myUC. You can start the Bachelor of Sport Coaching in Semester Two, beginning Monday 17th July 2017.

Enroling for 2018 starts from October.

To enter the Bachelor of Sport Coaching, we must receive a satisfactory police clearance. Click here for the police vetting request and consent form (PDF, 150KB).

Completed police vetting request and consent form must be returned to Student Services, Level 1, Matariki Building, University of Canterbury, Private Bag 4800, Christchurch, either by post or in person.

Referee checks are also required and you will be sent information regarding the process for this when your application has been received.

Application Information

If you are 20 years of age or over, recent tertiary study is desirable. For example, you may want to consider the Certificate in Learning Support (CertLS) which is available by distance or the Certificate in University Preparation (CUP) prior to applying.

Applicants must have good English language skills. All students for whom English is an additional language must provide evidence of their English language ability see here.

Note that satisfying these criteria does not guarantee entry to the programme.

If you have lived in another country for 12 months continuously in the past 10 years and were over 16 years of age, you will also need to provide a police report from that country.

Applying for the Graduate Certificate in Sport Coaching

The GradCertSpC is available to experienced coaches who do not necessarily possess a Bachelor degree. Entry for such coaches would require evidence of appropriate experience and industry related qualifications. Approval for course entry in this instance would be determined by a selection Committee from the School of Health Sciences.

Entry requirements

To qualify for enrolment in the GradCertSpC a student must;

  1. hold an approved NZ bachelors degree or equivalent; or
  2. satisfy the Dean of Education that, based on the student’s post-secondary study and work experience, the student is suitably qualified for admission.

Applying for the Certificate in Sport Coaching

If you are involved in sport coaching or team management at any level and wish to enhance your development and skills, the Certificate in Sport Coaching (CertSpC) is the ideal programme for you.

Entry requirements

  • Under 20 - The minimum requirement is University Entrance
  • Over 20 -
    1. provide recent evidence of the ability to study at Tertiary level, or
    2. satisfy the Dean of Education that, based on the student’s study and work experience, the student is suitably qualified for admission.
