There are many scholarships available to students studying teacher education, including substantial TeachNZ scholarships. Starting salaries are above those for many new graduates, and employment conditions are generally good, including generous holidays, and there are great international work opportunities.

A special application form for teaching programmes is required. Selection for entry is competitive and is based on academic ability, involvement and interest in working with children, community involvement, communication skills and other personal qualities.
The selection process includes a police check. Those for whom English is a second language must provide evidence of IELTS (Academic) 7.0 with no individual score below 7.0. NCEA students in addition to their level 2 literacy credits also need to achieve an IELTS score of 7 with no individual score lower than 7.
You can Major in Education or take individual Educational Studies courses towards your BA or other degrees.
We also have a large number of postgraduate programmes available in Educational Studies and Human Development.
We offer a wide range of professional development programmes and support services for teachers, schools, other organisations and the community.
Do you want to start training for a new career but are unsure about managing time and financial commitments? Do you worry that you have been out of the 'system' for too long? Don't worry - more than half our students are 'mature' students (25-80+) we are familiar with all the concerns people have about starting a new career.
We provide additional support and activities for Māori and Pacific College of Education students. There are also a large number of Support Services for all current and future students.
