The aim of this camp is to give the students the opportunity to meet others who are on the BEd/GradDipTchLn (Secondary) programme. The camp will be held at a mystery venue in 2008. The cost of camp is $50.00 per student. This covers food, accommodation and transport, and will be included in your fees. This camp will be organised by Year 4 students and details will be provided at the beginning of the year.
Your physical education and teacher education requirements for 2008 are less than 2007 with double the load in wider university commitments. You will have one four week teaching practice which will be in an Area School in the South or North Island, not in Christchurch. Marae Visit
Please bring the following:
The marae visit is a programme requirement. The visit serves as an introduction to the programme for the incoming Year 1 students with you as the tangata whenua. In this role you are required to completely organise the Pōwhiri to welcome the Year 1 group. Planning for this will have begun at the end of 2007. If you require more information please contact Hugh Galvan, hugh.galvan@canterbury.ac.nz
If you have any reason to believe that you may not be able to attend the marae then you must apply for leave as you would for any other absence.

Your College requirements for 2008 are slightly heavier than in 2007. You may have chosen to increase your load with optional GradDipTchLn(Secondary) outdoor education and/or Additional Teaching Studies.
In 2008 you will have one five week teaching practice which will be in Christchurch in Term two. This may well coincide with University assignment deadlines. Your planning for the year must allow for an increased workload at that time.
Venue: College of Education, Gymnasium Block, off Dovedale Avenue.

Your College of Education requirements for 2008 are heavier than in 2007 with a corresponding decrease in wider University commitments. The 2008 year is where the professional aspects to your degree have priority over all other study. Your focus this year should be on the development of your teaching knowledge base and your ability to apply it in the teaching situation.
This year you have more flexibility in course choice from the Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Secondary) programme. In effect your year will be very similar to the GradDipTchLn(Secondary) graduates and in many cases you may have combined classes with them.
In 2008 you will have two teaching sections (11 weeks total). Please be prepared to travel out of Christchurch for these.
Thursday 7 February
Venue: College of Education, Gymnasium Block, off Dovedale Avenue.
10.00am
Course checking will take place during the tutor group meeting. You should have enrolled in GradDipTchLn(Secondary) courses from the 2008 UC Enrolment Handbook. Any changes to your selection can be made at this time.
On Thursday 7 February there will also be Education Studies and Teaching Studies briefings. This is designed for Graduate Diploma students. You do not have to attend unless you have enrolment or course queries. Please attend these sessions if you are unsure of your course selections.
