This Association was formed in 1997 to promote and disseminate research in the discipline of children's and young people's literature within the Australasian region. The Association is governed by a Board of members, who are constituted in terms of representing different geographic locations. The Association meets biennially and publishes, after a peer-reviewed process, the proceedings of its conferences.
In 2001, the association met in Christchurch at the College of Education and in 2003 the proceedings were published in the book McKenzie, J., Darnell, D. & Smith, A. Cinderella Transformed: Multiple voices and diverse dialogues in children's literature CCE: Christchurch, NZ. Copies can be obtained from childrenslit@canterbury.ac.nz
