Whakapiki i te Reo Māori

Whakapiki i te Reo Māori is a full-time language learning programme for teachers and lasts 10 weeks (offered in the first term of each year).

The course aims to assist teachers in:

  • planning appropriate teaching and learning classroom programmes for language learners
  • developing their knowledge and understanding of the Māori curriculum document and associated resources
  • enhancing teaching competence of te reo Māori through the medium of Māori
  • developing their knowledge of second language teaching techniques.

Applicants must have a basic command and understanding of te reo Māori. The Whakapiki i te reo Māori is a total immersion programme which will require that participants use te reo Māori in all areas of the programme.
