This degree has been specifically developed for educators in all education settings; early childhood, primary, secondary, tertiary, public and private. One of the strengths of the degree is the variety of expertise and experience of our students.
The Master of Teaching and Learning enables teachers to build upon their bachelors degree or Advanced Diploma in Teaching. It aims to help teachers become critical and reflective in their thinking, better able to conduct and apply independent research, and able to assume greater leadership in their institution's professional growth - all for the ultimate benefit of learners.
There are a range of incentives or scholarships available although they may vary from year to year. Contact bridget.oregan@canterbury.ac.nz for scholarships that might relate to your circumstances.
The Masters of Education may include two courses from the MTchLn schedule.
Each MTchLn or PGDipTchLn course will require approximately 300 hours. As a guideline you should expect to spend 10 hours per week over 30 weeks for each course.
Your BTchLn(Hons) should leave you with only four MTchLn courses (probably a thesis) to complete. Each case, however, should be discussed with either the MTchLn Coordinator susan.lovett@canterbury.ac.nz or bridget.oregan@canterbury.ac.nz.
You have two options.
Learning Skills Centre
The Learning Skills Centre is located in the Education library and on level 7 of the Central Library.
The staff are available for individual consultations and also offer group seminars, lectures and practical workshops. There is a full list of the assistance available on the Learning Skills Centre website.
This is possible. You will need to discuss your options with either the MTchLn Coordinator susan.lovett@canterbury.ac.nz or bridget.oregan@canterbury.ac.nz.
This degree is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under the provisions of the Education Act 1989, and the University of Canterbury College of Education is accredited to offer it.
We would prefer enrolments four weeks before a course commences but late enrolments will be considered if places are available at the discretion of the course co-ordinator.
