Welcome to New Plymouth

The New Plymouth Centre is located within the Western Institute of Technology (WITT) campus and offers the Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood).

Classes for the Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) are held one half day a fortnight, with students also engaging in a range of flexible learning options (FLO) at other times. At the beginning of each semester students will attend an orientation where they will be introduced to their subjects and inducted into the University systems.

It is suggested that students might like to affiliate themselves with a licensed early childhood centre, of their own choosing, in order to become familiar with the processes and procedures within an early childhood setting.

Students are also required to attend Professional Practice in a range of early childhood centres. These will be arranged by lecturing and administrative staff in New Plymouth. There will be two Professional Practices each year of the degree as set out below.

Year 1 Semester one: 2 weeks Semester two: 4 weeks
Year 2 Semester one: 4 weeks Semester two: 4 weeks
Year 3 Semester one: 5 weeks Semester two: 5 weeks

New Plymouth students are eligible for a range of services on the WITT campus including the library, student learning support, counselling services, and health services. Students may also access the University of Canterbury distance library services, learning support and counselling services.
