The Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) is a centre-based option and is offered at the Tauranga Campus, 56 Fraser St Tauranga. This provides access to a three-year qualification for students who wish to study while working in a licensed early childhood centre.
Classes for the Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) are held one day a week, with students being required to attend a licensed early childhood centre (of their own choosing) and spend 15 hours per week (voluntary or paid) to complete the practicum requirement. Students are visited in their practicum centre three times per year and have a trained teacher as a support person in this centre. Part-time options are available.
Students are also required to attend teaching practices in other centres during their studies, and these are arranged by lecturing staff.
On-campus facilities include a classroom, common room, computer lab and small library. Students also have access to UC’s distance library services.
