BTchLn(Hons) ScholarshipsAvailable to two students entering the BTchLn(Hons) programme who can demonstrate academic excellence. The scholarships cover four papers at this level.

Associate teachers of the University of Canterbury College of Education are invited to apply for a waiver of course fees for a range of courses.

UC Partnerships With Schools Scholarships
Associate teachers who are part of the UC Partnership with Schools initiative are able to apply for the following fees scholarships for postgraduate study at the University of Canterbury College of Education. These will be allocated on a competitive basis but will only be open to Associate Teachers and senior school leaders (Principals, Deputy Principals) in the UC Partnership with Schools initiative:
- 50% Fees scholarships to complete one course towards an MEd, PGDipEd or PGCertEd or one years PhD or MEd thesis enrolment.

Maori and Pasifika Scholarships
Five scholarships are available to first year students, equal to the full first year fees. Two are reserved for Maori and two for Pasifika with the last being for either group.
The College of Education will award three Masters Scholarships.
University of Canterbury Masters’ Scholarships are tenable for full time or part time study towards the research year of a Masters degree at the University of Canterbury.
Value: $12,000 per annum, plus tuition fees (NZ domestic rate) (in most situations this will be equivalent to 1.00 EFTS over a year).
Tenure: 1 year

UC Masters Scholarships (Scholarships website)
The College of Education will award three Doctoral Scholarships.
University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarships are tenable for full time study or part time study towards the PhD degree at the University of Canterbury. Both domestic and international students are eligible.
Applicants are also considered for the following prestigious scholarships: Brownlie Scholarship; Roper Scholarship; Canterbury Scholarship (domestic students); and/or UC International Doctoral Scholarships (international students). No separate application is required.
Students from any disciplines may apply. A small number of Doctoral scholarships are reserved for certain colleges/ faculties: Business and Economics; Creative Arts; Education; and Law. Applications for the reserved scholarships are made on the standard application form.
Value: $20,000 per annum plus tuition fees at NZ domestic rate for thesis only.
Tenure: 3 years

UC Doctoral Scholarships (Scholarships website)
PhD Scholarship in Health Sciences
Applications are invited from interested candidates for a PhD scholarship at the Health Sciences Centre, University of Canterbury. You will be working with Dr Dean Sutherland (University of Canterbury) and Professor Jeff Sigafoos (Victoria University Wellington) who have been awarded a Marsden Grant for their project 'Enhancing Communication intervention for children with Autism', a PhD scholarship forms part of this grant. You would ideally have practical experience working with children with Autism spectrum disorders and hold appropriate qualifications in one of teaching, speech-language therapy, child psychology.
The Scholarship is for 3 years and will cover $5000NZD toward tuition fees per annum and a stipend of $25,000NZD per annum. It is based in Christchurch.
Closing Date for PhD scholarship applications is 14 February 2011. Applications should be emailed to Emma Parnell (emma.parnell@canterbury.ac.nz) and include a cover letter outlining why you wish to work on this project, your CV and your academic transcript (translated if necessary).

UC Emerging Leaders' ScholarshipsThese scholarships are intended to recognise academic achievement, leadership potential, and sporting, cultural and community involvement amongst the top students entering the University of Canterbury.
The scholarships cover the first year fees, and are designed to attract leaders who might encourage others to follow. The College will fund three of these scholarships, two in Initial Teacher Education and one in Sport Coaching.
Value: up to $5,000 towards the payment of first-year tuition fees
Tenure: 1 year

UC Emerging Leader's Scholarships (Scholarships website)
Pacific Students Thesis Scholarships
The Tertiary Education Commission has provided funding in 2010 to support pacific students who are undertaking a Masters or PhD thesis. This funding will be utilised as scholarships to support scholars undertaking a thesis and will comprise:
- Scholarship 1: Tuition Fees for 2010
- Scholarship 2: Support for conferences and workshops related to their thesis topic
- Scholarship 3: Support for the thesis research e.g. data collection
- Scholarship 4: Support of up to $1000 for thesis completion
Value: up to $5,000 towards the payment of first-year tuition fees
Tenure: 1 year

Meri Mataira ScholarshipFor Māori students undertaking sport, fitness and leisure studies at a recognised NZ tertiary institution. Must have proven academic and sporting ability.The value of this scholarship is $5000.

Prime Minister's Scholarships - NZ Academy of SportsApplicants/recipients must be Carded Athletes, or receive a personal grant from the Foundation, or be nominated by their national sports organisation (this only applies to non-carded sports).

Ngāi Tahu Development scholarships and grantsA fund has been established for education scholarships and base grants for tertiary students. All applicants should be enrolled on the Ngāi Tahu whakapapa tribal register and undertaking a course of study at tertiary level. Information about Ngāi Tahu is available from the website.

Te Tapuae o Rehua - Tu Mai TauiraA range of study awards and different support programmes are available to Māori students studying at the partner institutions. The financial awards range in value from $1000 to full fees. Students must be of Māori descent and registered as a full-time student.

Ministry of Education Study Awards
For current teachers - The Ministry of Education offers a wide range of awards to current teachers, educators and principals, guidance councilors and special needs teachers. Special awards are available for bilingual education and upgrades. For more information visit the Ministry of Education website.
In Māori Education Research and Pasifika Education Research 2011 -These awards aim to assist emerging education researchers undertaking a Masters or PhD to make a quality contribution to the body of knowledge in Māori or Pasifika education research. Each year the Ministry of Education offers one Study Award in Māori Education Research and one Study Award in Pasifika Education Research, each worth $5,000 per annum. Successful applicants may be eligible for a further $5,000 for a subsequent year of study, subject to satisfactory progress by the award holder in her/his course of study.

The award is granted annually by the Graham Nuthall Classroom Research Trust. Applications are invited annually from teachers, researchers and postgraduate students who have experience in classroom based research, particularly the interactions between students, their teachers and the curriculum within the classroom. Proposed projects may either involve collecting new data or further analysis of the database collected through Professor Nuthall’s own research.

NZARE Geraldine McDonald Scholarship
This one-off scholarship, which may take the form of a stipend, is to support a Masters or Doctoral student to write the History of NZARE as his or her thesis.

Doctoral Scholarship in cancer environmental epidemiology
For a doctoral scholarship in population-based, multi-disciplinary cancer prevention and control research.
Eligibility: Must hold a Bachelor (Honours) or Masters level degree in public health, health promotion/health education, one of the behavioral, health or social sciences, epidemiology, or medicine. New graduates, Maori and Pacific Island graduates are encouraged to apply.
Value:
$20,000 per annum plus domestic tuition fees (thesis only)
